The fine print
Terms and Conditions
The rules for using Roofing Advice, including how to use our guides safely and how product recommendations work.
Last updated: September 30, 2026
These Terms and Conditions govern your use of Roofing Advice (the “site”). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. What this site is
Roofing Advice publishes general information about roofing materials, inspection, maintenance, repair and replacement for homeowners and property managers. We are an independent publisher, not a roofing contractor, and we do not carry out work on properties.
2. Information only, not professional advice
Our guides, checklists and answers are for general information. Every roof is different, and building codes, permit requirements, manufacturer instructions and insurance terms vary by location and product. Nothing on this site replaces an on-site inspection or advice from a licensed roofing contractor, structural engineer, insurer or other qualified professional.
3. Roof safety
Working on or near a roof is dangerous. Falls from height are one of the most common causes of serious injury in home improvement. If you choose to follow any guide yourself:
- Never work on a wet, icy, windy, steep or fragile roof, and never work alone.
- Use a properly secured ladder and suitable fall protection.
- Stay well clear of overhead power lines and follow the safety instructions for any product, tool or chemical you use.
- Stop and call a professional whenever you are unsure.
You are responsible for your own safety and for deciding whether a task is suitable for you to do.
4. Accuracy of information
We work hard to keep guides accurate and up to date, but products, prices, codes and best practices change. We do not guarantee that every piece of information is complete, current or suitable for your situation. Costs, lifespans and performance figures are estimates.
5. Product recommendations and affiliate links
Some guides recommend products. Some links on the site may be affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we recommend. Always read the manufacturer’s instructions and warranty terms, and check a product is suitable for your roof before you use it. We are not responsible for products or services supplied by third parties.
6. Free checklists and emails
When you request a checklist or sign up for our emails, you agree to receive the content you asked for and occasional roofing tips. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. How we handle your details is explained in our Privacy Policy.
7. Comments and messages
If you post a comment or send us a message, you confirm that it is your own, is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and does not contain anything unlawful, abusive, misleading or promotional. We may edit or remove comments at our discretion. By posting, you give us permission to display your comment on the site.
8. Intellectual property
All text, images, graphics, checklists and other content on the site belong to Roofing Advice or our licensors. You may read, print and share links to our content for personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, republish or sell our content without written permission.
9. Links to other websites
The site links to manufacturers, retailers and other websites. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, products or privacy practices.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Roofing Advice will not be liable for any loss, damage or injury arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content, including damage to property, personal injury, or costs of repair or replacement. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Roofing Advice against claims arising from your misuse of the site or breach of these terms.
12. Changes to the site and these terms
We may change, suspend or remove any part of the site, and may update these terms at any time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the site means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Roofing Advice is operated, and any disputes will be handled by the courts of that jurisdiction, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring proceedings there.
